My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
£20000 to walk

My physio is going strong, when i came home they said any additional recovery would stop after 6 months to a year, I’m this far on now and still progressing, this I believe is largely down to the care I received to start with, so just another thank you to everyone involved.

I’ve built and maintained this website as a record of my recovery alexwillwalkagain.com

I’ve been told “I’d never even roll in bed”, now in physio I’m working on a treadmill (assisted steps) and on the parallel bars, a quote from my website – ”Saturday I was on my parallel bars, my blood pressure was fine and the session went well, I could initiate my gluts, quads, lower back and hip flexors into stabilizing myself”. things are changing with my strength and sensation, my physio says it’s a positive thing but I’m not too sure yet… my legs have evened out, i was right dominant (right dominant with muscles and my left side was more sensitive) along with my thumbs… but not the left getting stronger, my right has fallen back.. It means I’m more synchronized now which is good for standing and the treadmill.. I lost the use of my right thumb over the weekend of my birthday.. But that came back after a few days, I wrote in more detail on my site. Although still reliant on the harness,

most of what I’m doing now “should” be impossible for a quadriplegic.. At present I still have no functional motor function in my legs.

As I’ve said I do appreciate every hour, every penny spent on getting me this far, the dream of walking is still just out of reach, there is a new machine out now that “allows the paralyzed to walk again” but as with everything a price tag that is just out of reach. Up until now I have been able to recycle the equipment that I have to buy the equipment that i need, but I have unfortunately reached a point where I need to ask for help once again.

Israeli Exoskeleton Suit Enables Paralyzed People To Walk $20,000, (a video can been seen here LINK) with this machine I have the freedom to walk once again, with my continued physio and hydro, plus with the difference in the medical technology I’m more like a paraplegic than quadriplegic (as I’m ment to be classed as) any help reaching my target of $20,000 is greatly needed and very much appreciated

I’ve been ill…..

i suffered really bad the past few days from the infection caused from swimming with the hedgehog… i did 18miles on my bike yesterday and 13miles today, tomorrow i plan to do two sessions (18miles) then out in the off road chair
